     Billy Gomez Jr. grew up watching his dad race. When his father decided to end his career, Billy decided it was past time for his career to start. At 12-years-old, he began racing go-karts at East Mountain Speedway in Fayetteville. Racing go-karts, Gomez Jr. managed a career high 2^nd in World Karting Association (WKA) points and multiple wins.

     After 14 years of karting, Gomez Jr. decided to move up to the Legends class. In Legends, he has become not only a driver, but a car owner as well. With seven cars in his stables, Gomez Racing is now the place to go for good, quality race cars. Between his go-karting career and his Legends racing Gomez jr. has racked up approximately 24 track championships at various tracks around the East Coast.

     “I’ve done a lot of racing,” he said, of his career. “I’ve lost count.”

     As for his career at Coastal Plains Raceway (CPR), Gomez Jr. has won three championships in the Legends class in the past four years, and the year he did not win, a driver for his team (Gomez Racing) took the trophy.

     In 2006, Gomez Jr. has eight wins to his name, 14 top five finishes and 14 top ten’s at Coastal Plains Raceway, easily winning himself another track championship. Outside of CPR, Gomez has taken the checkered flag at Wake County Speedway in Raleigh and Florence Motor Speedway in Timmonsville, Sc.

     The Legends class held their national event at Lanier Speedway in Braselton, Ga. in September and Gomez Jr. raced his way to a 5^th place finish. Currently he sits in 23^rd place nationally and he has racked up 20 wins total this season between all three tracks he races at regularly.

     Next year Gomez plans to be back at CPR in his Legends car.

     “I’ll keep on riding,” he said “(It is just the) same old stuff.”
