Ronal Shepard, of Maple Hill, has been racing at Coastal Plains Raceway (CPR) since the track opened. He started out in the Cruzer Bruzer class and was successful from the start. With a few third place finishes in his first season he ended up fifth in points; his second season was much of the same and he ended in fifth place again. His seasons consistently improved until he finally won the Cruzer Bruzer championship in 2004.

2005 saw Shepard defend his Championship title but in ’06 the 41-year-old was plagued with bad luck. Despite a few broken rear ends and a handful of on-track altercations, Shepard still managed a 4th place finish in the point standings.

Next year, he plans on running a ’96 Camaro, which is new to his stable, but he will keep the ’87 Camaro he has been running as a backup. In 2007, Shepard would like to repeat his championship season and he is also considering a move up to the Super Stock class.

Also on the horizon for this already busy driver is the prospect of putting his son in a go-kart. Shaun Shepard will soon be 7-years-old and his dad plans on teaching him to drive and sending him to a racing school or two. The elder Shepard hopes to have Shaun in Bandaleros within a few years and once his racing career takes off Ronal will quit racing himself and put his all into Shaun’s career.
