46-year-old Donald Frink, of Leland, has been around racing his entire life. Surprisingly, even after living so close to a race track in Leland, Frink did not climb into a race car until he was 30 years old. He started in go-karts and ran for eight years, until he was injured in a bad wreck.

Once he recovered, Frink decided to move up to racing Legends. He started in Legends, raced three years and won the championship at Fireball Speedway in ’99. Then in 2004, Frink made another switch and began racing in the Street Stock class at Coastal Plains Raceway (CPR). He started in a ’78 Camaro and his first season was plagued by car troubles and wrecks. Since 2004, Frink has run two more seasons, finishing 5th and 3rd, respectively, in the overall point standings and he purchased an ’85 Monte Carlo to race.

This past season, Fink got his 3rd place finish in points by racing his way to 8 top fives and 11 top tens. On top of his racing schedule at Coastal Plains Raceway, Fink also runs a dirt car at Dublin Motor Speedway on Friday nights.

As for next season, Donald Frink plans to be back in his #00 Monte Carlo in the Super Street Stock class at CPR.

“I enjoy racing up there,” Frink said. “I just love to race.”
